Hi! I’m Rachel. I graduated in December last year – studying a degree in Media and Communications (focusing on Marketing Communications and Branding) at the University of Melbourne. Prior to joining TTI in July, I kept myself busy with several part-time jobs – working as a Research Assistant at the university, a cashier at a grocery store and a business analyst intern at a startup.
Why did you join the GH traineeship at TTI?
I joined the GH traineeship at TTI as I had always been passionate about digital marketing and believed that growth hacking was the next step forward. In university, I taught myself how to implement Facebook ads and used software like MailChimp so that I could grow the Wine Society quickly (wine not?). I was really excited by seeing the numbers grow and even put a bit of my own money into it. Our events started to sell out quickly with long waiting lists and I was amazed! – what was this sorcery and why weren’t my marketing subjects teaching me anything about this?? Towards the end of last year, I read a job ad for TTI and was just mindblown when I discovered growth hacking – I immediately jumped on board!
What are some projects you have worked on or working on?
Over the past few months, I have been working at Startupbootcamp Australia as part of the traineeship. It’s been incredible so far and I’ve been able to implement many experiments of my own – specifically to increase the number of applications for the EnergyAustralia 2020 Accelerator Program. From conducting A/B tests to reduce friction in the customer journey to closely monitoring analytics, no day is ever the same. I’ve also been given the opportunity to work with Asahi Beverages under the program – leading the innovation team in market research and validation. We’re planning to launch some of the products next year so it’s all very exciting!
What are your biggest takeaways from the program?
One of my biggest takeaways from the traineeship was the importance of the growth mindset. I’ve not only implemented it in my work but also in my everyday life. My instructors and mentors at TTI have done an exceptional job at helping me realise the importance of this mindset and it’s something I’ll continue to abide by for the rest of my life.
